'Neath Arizona Skies

neath arizona
it a very good movie even with it not to great quality the quality could improve a lot more also sound.

Neath Arizona Skies dvd and update 4/13
All prints of this film which I have viewed are in rough shape. Synergy print is better than some , but for watching (contrast/ sound) I prefer the print issued by Platinum / Echo Bridge offered as a buy one - get one free. NOW JUST RELEASED (2012-2013) IS THE REMASTERED PRINT FROM THE ORIGINAL NEGATIVE! BY MR. FAT. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME MINOR CHANGES IN THE MUSIC BACKGROUND - BUT THEY ARE MINOR AND GOOD. THE PICTURE WILL BLOW EVERYTHING OUT THERE AWAY. I JUST VIEWED THE FILM AND YOU WILL DO YOURSELF A DISERVICE IF YOU PURCHASE SOME OTHER LESS EXPENSIVE PUBLIC DOMAIN COPY.

two good 1934 westerns
The pattern of children being a main part of the plot in
both these movies plays to the fact that "B" western like these
showed on Saturdays to kids across America.
The sound on the second movie was pretty bad on the tape I saw.
Cattle rustling at night is a pretty stupid plot element
in that movie ( something like the 10 shot six shooter sometimes seen in this era movie
or the lead slinging shooting style no sane cowboy would use).
I liked seeing these movies one more time...

Pilot

Bryan Fuller has done way better
I'm usually a big fan of anything Bryan Fuller does, but this pilot didn't impress me. I've already forgotten the characters' personalities. I'll watch it if a series airs, but I don't think it will be amazing like other things Fuller has written.

Grandpa knows best
Being a Munsters fantom which is only eclipsed by a wolf hair's breadth by The Addams Family, I decided to inspect this latest media offering presented as a Halloween special. Immediately, I was pleased by the elegant environment displayed apparently, this version takes place in San Francisco, evidenced by the Golden Gate Bridge in the background of the mansion, although the characters are lacking in said character with the exception of Grandpa here portrayed by comic Eddie Izzard, as a truly evil blood-thirsty patriarch; being Count Dracula, & a product of "The Old Country", after all - while the rest of the characters are lackluster, though Marilyn fits the bill perfectly.

This production seems an attempt to "normalize" the family, perhaps to make it somewhat more "believable". Though the point of the series is that these are a clan of monsters who happen to act like most everyone else.

Visually, where the true punchline is, it's almost like The Munsters...

Would have been a fun series.
I love Bryan Fuller's series (Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Hannibal) so I was looking forward to giving this a look . It's fun, but it IS a pilot, so much of it is concerned with setting up the new Munster's premise. It's a bit darker than I expected, with Eddie Izzard being dead creepy as Grandpa. If they'd green-lighted the series, I'd have watched it, but I can see why they didn't. The horror/comedy thing is a tough sell (trust me, I know).Still, worth a look, if you'd like to see how a talented cast and writer handled a modern rebooting of The Munsters.

Ram Jaane

Bad print
Many parts of this film were missing/edited out and the quality of the print was not good. We were disappointed.

Ram Jaane-expectations-disappointed.
Although I am a huge fan of SRK movies. And I hope to see all that he has done-this one was just o.k.-He plays a negative character and I prefer to see him in the good-guy-Hero type roles. The quality of the movie was not very good. Showed some lines - like it came from a tape. Glad I got to see it, but really glad I didnt purchase it. I have been buying the ones I really like.

Great film for Shah Rukh Khan fans
I bought this film because I am a fan of Shah Rukh Khan. He plays a negative character in this film, but makes the audience sympathetic to him. He and his childhood friend chose different ways of fighting against things that are wrong in the world. He is a hero to me in this film. I really loved this film.

Of Dolls And Murder

Great, informative, and most importantly, oddly entertaining.
Of Dolls and Murder is a great little documentary about the art of the crime scene. The film is wonderfully narrated by the famous John Waters who's added flair makes the gruesome subject manner oddly enjoyable.

While the film jumps around a bit, studying everything from the popularity of the CSI franchise to a local body farm, the main focus is on Frances Glessner Lee. Lee was frustrated about her home life, a strict father kept her from continuing her education like her brother. Her Brother, George Burgess Magrath, would occassionaly visit home and share stories of crime and the criminals who were literally getting away with murder. These stories would eventually inspire Lee to create a series of intricate dollhouses depicting various crime scenes.

While it might seem juvenile to some, these detailed doll houses helped mold the science of forensics into what it is today.

As mentioned earlier, the film has a few subjects all related to the study...

Great Idea, Poor Execution
I was so excited to see this that I bought it sight unseen. That was a mistake. The story of Frances Glessner Lee's Nutshell Studies is a fascinating one, but this film does little to flesh the story out. The first 15-20 minutes delve into creation of the murder dioramas and their creator (Lee).

From there, the documentary takes a negative turn and wastes the closing 45-50 minutes describing modern forensics/crime scene investigation. This would have been effective if the filmmaker hadn't abandoned Waters' narration (his narration literally lasts for 7-10 minutes) and further discussion of Lee and her work. Instead, the viewer is forced to sit through the banter of producers/writers for TV dramas like CSI talk about modern forensics. What do they know about modern forensics, save for the kind that are portrayed on TV in melodramatic fashion?

The film started out strong and completely died before it was given an honest chance of becoming something bigger...

Fascinating
The Nutshell Murderer dollhouses are so mesmerizing with their mix of innocence and the macabre that it's no wonder the filmakers felt they had to share them. Along with telling the story of the dollhouses, they tell the inspiring story of the woman who made them, Frances Glessner Lee. Lee is a forgotten pioneer in modern police and forensics techniques, so it is wonderful to see her story told.

The best part of the film though is how the filmmakers feature and follow real detectives and forensic pathologists doing mundane, thankless--and definitely not glamorous-- work to find justice for murder victims and their families. Their dedication to their work is very moving.

In the end, I feel this is a film about passion. The passion for creation, deduction, and justice.

NOT acting!
So the performances in given in this move are complete shit. After observing the lowest bar of talent and plot I will have to give this a negative 18 stars below 0 just for pure crap. Coyotes

A Rare Film - Tender and Moving
This is a very special film. It touches the heart without being maudlin or sappy. Produced in a simple, straight-forward style, "Coyotes" is nonetheless extremely effective. There is no need for bells and whistles; character depth effectively conveys the heartfelt and sometimes bittersweet love between a father and daughter. As the story shows, there is a time when we all have to accept our parents (or other loved ones) for what they are and let go of our childhood ideals of how they should be. The fact that this not only doesn't erode the affection between the two comes through clear as a bell. Indeed, sometimes, if we're lucky, the love only grows deeper.

Nice Little Movie
This is not the kind of movie I usually watch because it has no major stars or big action, but my daughter bought it, and our whole family loved it. Good story, subtle acting, interesting views of southwest.

A sentimental journey
This sensitive, coming-of-age story weaves its magic slowly but the emotions are real, the characters are true to life, and the story is as current as today's border patrol vigilante headlines. This small movie revisits the same emotional territory first tread by "Paper Moon" a generation ago. It is the kind of movie that Hollywood doesn't make anymore, namely an unconventional, off-beat story about the adventures and bond between a father and his teenage daughter and their struggle to survive as a family unit. Highly recommended.

Railroaded

5 classic NOIRS from the studio vaults
Wow! Great deal! These films retail for $29.95 each. This collection includes great titles from great directors (Fritz Lang, Anthony Mann) and they star some of Hollywood's all time greats like Joan Crawford, Henry Fonda, Jack Palance and many more. Here's a little description for each film:

SUDDEN FEAR (1952) - STARRING JOAN CRAWFORD, JACK PALANCE & GLORIA GRAHAME - DIRECTED BY DAVID MILLER - NOMINATED FOR 4 ACADEMY AWARDS - SYNOPSIS: Joan Crawford turns in one of the most emotionally charged performances of her career as a playwright who must use her plotting skills to save her own life, in this beautifully crafted film noir thriller. On a train headed home to California, Myra Hudson (Crawford) falls in love with, and marries, actor Lester Blaine (Jack Palance) whom she has just fired from her most recent New York play. Back on her San Francisco estate, something evil appears to be lurking just beneath the surface of the couple's idyllic life. Enter Gloria Grahame as...

Tight, sharp, taut--classic film noir
The short (73 minutes) of this film is not a problem at all; Anthony Mann's direction is so strong that there's no wasted moment. While some films noir suffer from being overly stiff (cf. The Big Combo), this one's fluidity is definitely in evidence. John Ireland is the standout here, but the two female leads--Sheila Ryan and Jane Randolph--are almost as good. A real plus, plotwise, is the 'good girl' falling (at least temporarily) for the bad guy.

Similarly, the 'bad girl' ultimately turns good. These reversals, coupled with the bad guy's peculiar behavior (the infamous perfuming of his bullets) and an unusual shoot-out in a long-after-closing bar full of upside-down barstools make for an interesting film.

Hugh Beaumont's good guy cop is a well-matched foil to John Ireland's Duke Martin, whose occasionally drunk girlfriend meets with Beaumont, near the end, to rat out what she thinks is her two-timing boyfriend.

Definitely one of the better films noir on DVD.

A GREAT MOVIE
John Ireland is sensational in this movie, as always. He is one of the best actors ever, and it is sad he is not remembered that way. RAILROADED and RAW DEAL are both wonderful showcases for his talent. I reccommend any movie with John Ireland in it.

Thunder Town

The best of the Kart.
Video Kart came out with 4-double feature/discs featuring the Eddie Dean, Bob Steele, and Lash LaRue B Westerns. All are good but this is the best of the group - not so much as to the selection but more so as to picture quality, especially Driftin'River. The other black and white features had very intense contrast- so that the night and dark scenes were essentially black and white with hardly any shades of grey in between, which makes it difficult to appreciate the finer details. But this is not so with Driftin River which somehow come off well. The Bob Steele feature- Thundertown was also much better than the previous two releases by Video Kart. The features appear to have been cleaned-up versions of the originals but not actually full blown restorations. These are better than some of those B westerns transferred to DVD but were merely copied from the VHS EP versions. Let's hope Video Kart comes out with more of these westerns - especially those Cinecolor team-ups of Eddie Dean and...

singing cowboy film
Eddie Dean had a far better singing voice than most of the Singing Cowboy stars but they gave him rather poor movies to be featured in, for younger audiences than Roy Rogers or Gene Autry. Scripts were really weak and I just don't think Eddie Dean good as Star and Hero, not luike Roy, Gene, Tex or Rex. This film is ok but not much more.

IT WAS A GIFT.

THE RED HEADED CORPSE stars Farley Granger (STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, THE PROWLER) as a drunken painter who, after watching a group of free-loving hippies, is given a female mannequin to take home (!!). At first, it's just a mannequin w/ a red wig. The painter fixes the broken parts of its face, paints features on it, and starts talking to it... a lot! We get the impression that this guy is either extremely lonely, or has slipped several gears! Perhaps both. Soon, through some magic, or mental illness, the mannequin becomes a living woman. At first, she's mute, and waits all day for him to return home for dinner and champagne. Then, she begins talking, and we see that she's transformed into Erica Blanc (THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE)! She's also become quite demanding, and insists that he paint her naked. Alas, now the woman starts to feel a little lonely herself, and decides to share herself w/ other men. This causes suspicion, jealousy, and death (um, sort of). THE RED HEADED CORPSE is a very...

The print is all right, not crisp though. I saw this film as a child, what great fun to see it again. This one is from the fourties and not as good and convincing as the Bob Steele films from the thirties but it is all right, Bob Steele has great authority as usual, and oh what a voice. And many of the loveable b-western mainstay caracters are of course represented.

Wonderful story!

Kurt & Courtney

Courtney smearing campaign
This movie had very little to do with Kurt. It was mostly about dragging Courtney's name through the mud. I'm not Team Love by any means, but this is absolutely NOT unbiased journalism. If you have seen this or are about to see this movie, I would encourage you to check out some of Courtney's more recent interviews before letting this slanted film form your opinion for you. I'm left a bit unsatisfied on what I thought would be a documentary vice the smear campaign it turned out to be.

Who killed Kurt Cobain?
One of the biggest conspiracy theories in rock'n'roll involves the death of Kurt Cobain. Was it really suicide, or did someone murder him?

And from this we get "Kurt and Courtney," Nick Broomfield's now-legendary documentary that explores the life of Kurt Cobain, his relationship with his wife Courtney Love, and the question of whether he was murdered. There's a lot of good material floating around, but the heavy slant throws the whole film off-balance.

First, Broomfield interviews many people who knew Cobain during his younger years -- his teacher, his first love, and an aunt of Cobain's. His hometown, loves, artistic leanings and rough upbringing are examined in detail. But after examining his life in Nirvana and his relationship with rocker Courtney Love, Broomfield begins examining the question: did Love kill him, or did he really commit suicide?

He interviews Hank Harrison (Love's father), a PI crusading to have Cobain's case reopened, a creepy...

1 Hr and 35 Minutes of Pure Drivel. Don't Waste Your Time!
This documentary contains nothing but ill-focused and unorganized filler from mostly unwilling and misinformed participants. The most insightful information is presented through interviews with Kurt Cobain's aunt Mary, his former live-in girlfriend Tracy Marander, his friend and former drug buddy Dylan Carlson (the inspiration for their song "In Bloom"), and brief past interviews with Cobain himself. The purpose of Broomfield's documentary is muddled, as he claimed to want to tell the story of Kurt and Courtney and appeared to be in a neutral position, but ended up giving camera time to anyone and everyone who had a negative word to say against Courtney Love. A former, obviously bitter boyfriend; shock rocker El Duce, Courtney's estranged father Hank Harrison, and private investigator Tom Grant--all of whom never even met Kurt in person--were treated as experts. The most wasteful testimony came from a young woman who claimed to know Kurt and Courtney very well through a mutual...

Romance of the West

Romance of the West
"Romance of the West" was made in 1946 and is a slightly better than average
B-Western with the added bonus of Cinecolor. The movie contains a generous
supply of songs, action, fist fights, shooting, romancing and the star Eddie Dean
has a fine singing voice. The songs include the well known "Lovesong of the
Waterfall" (made popular by Slim Whitman), "Indian Dawn" and "Ridin' the
Trail to Dreamland". It is interesting to note that all the songs have an
orchestral musical backing and not guitar as in most singing cowboy films, which
is a welcome variation to a well worn theme.

For a change, the Indians are portrayed as a friendly and peace loving people
who love their land.

The story is about the white man's greed for money and the fact that they want
ownership of Indian lands because it contains extensive silver deposits, so they
hire a band of outlaws to create trouble and drive the Indians out. Eddie...

Seven Blood Stained Orchids

Decent Giallo for euro-trash fanatics
This 1971 giallo from Umberto Lenzi has never been released in the US in any form until this welcome Shriek Show release. The film itself is somewhat average as far as giallos go - the cinematography is nice, there's a black-gloved killer, some violent murder scenes (one with a power drill!), and some nudity to spice things up ---- but the mystery itself is pretty substandard and doesn't really have much punch. I also guessed the killer the first time that character appeared on screen - maybe I've just seen too many of these things.

Still, if you're a giallo fanatic or euro trash junkie, this disc is a no-brainer and you need to buy it. The anamorphic transfer looks great (bar some minor EE and shimmering around vertical lines or plaid clothing) and there's another great score by Riz Ortolani that will have you groovin' in no time. Extras include a 10 minute interview with Lenzi and a short interview with one of the female victims. Plus, the trailer and one for "Spasmo" and...

Beautiful babes and lots of style
Good god, I love Media Blasters! Every time you turn around, these guys are unleashing yet another depraved classic from years gone past. It seems that most of the stuff they release are Japanese anime flicks, a genre I haven't gotten into in a serious way yet, but they also make sure to release tons of gooey gorefests that send horror fans into paroxysms of joy. And they go out of their way (usually) to stuff the disc with plenty of supplemental materials like trailers, interviews, and commentaries. That doesn't sound like a big deal since lots of DVDs today contain extras, but it's a lot easier to find someone like Oliver Stone than it is to uncover the whereabouts of Ruggero Deodato or Umberto Lenzi. Heck, these guys actually locate cult favorites like George Eastman and Ivan Rassimov in order to interview them on camera! If you love films that delve deep into the inner recesses of shock cinema, Media Blasters is the place for you. Thanks to these guys, we can finally watch Lenzi's...

SUPERB!
SEVEN BLOOD-STAINED ORCHIDS is a close second to Argento's excellent DEEP RED as my favorite giallo! Directed with flair and tension by Umberto Lenzi, who was best known for CANNIBAL FEROX/MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY, EATEN ALIVE, and NIGHTMARE CITY, ORCHIDS tells the story of a killer who murders women in all kinds of gruesome ways (bludgeoning, drowning, strangling, and power-drilling) and leaves a silver half-moon locket in their hands. One victim (Uschi Glass) survives her attack and, together with her husband (Antonio Sabato), she finds a connection between herself and the other victims: They were all at the seaside hotel that she once managed. And the locket belonged to a guest that was also there one day.

To reveal anymore about SEVEN BLOOD-STAINED ORCHIDS would be unfair, as this film requires very little foreknowledge as possible. The story is engrossing from beginning to end, the performances are great, and the murder sequences rank up there with anything Bava or Argento...

Great if you like British comedy
If you enjoy British comedy (Allo Allo, Yes Minister, etc.), you will love the Mind Your Language Series. It had great ratings back in the day.

I just wish that all the original episodes were put onto the DVD but some are missing. It isn't just the DVD's on Amazon that are missing them though - no website (that I could find) has all episodes.

Hilarious
Excellent, if you appreciate the British sense of humor. Not politically correct now, but who cares?

Simply splended
One of the best british commedies of 80's.I was probably 9 when this series was broadcasted by local television network in Pakistan.I remember having regular discussions on each episode in school among friends. I have just ordered the full 4-voulme DVDs and cannot wait to watch them all.....probably in one sitting!

"Real" reality t.v.
The "Married to Jonas" series is a refreshing take on reality t.v. It is actually real. The two families involved are obviously very committed to each other and love each other. They have arguments but they also have birthday parties. They mess up but they apologize. It is not like a soap opera. It gives a nice perspective on the Jonas' lives. It is also clean and it doesn't flaunt wealth and fame as the road to happiness.

Cash in the Tank [HD]

I stops time to time
1st disk played about two hours, and it stops time to time for 10 minutes. I have not had time to watch 2nd and 3rd disks yet.

Border Wars is excellent in many ways
I enjoy the Law Enforcement side of this program, but I have also learned a lot about the ports, the geography of the regions discussed, and the real reason many immigrants come here. I am pro-border control, but I believe that we must examine why countries like Mexico and those farther south, are so poor that people risk their lives to come work here. Especially since large segments of our population refuse to work, live off the government and whine about how bad life is in the USA. They have no clue.

New Commentator
As always love my Border Wars. There is a new Commentator for this season. He isn't bad but it will take getting use to. I did love the old one.

Powerless in the Face of Death

The Venture Bros. Are Back! From the Dead!!
The second season of Adult Swim's The Venture Bros. surpasses its first in nearly every way. The first season introduced us to the Venture universe, which is occupied by hilarious characters who never cease to reach new levels of incompetance. Many of the episodes were laugh-out-loud hilarious that remained so throughout the entire half hour. So if season 1 was taht good, yet this year is so much better, that really says something to the quality of season 2.

The precredits sequence of the season premiere, "Powerless in the Face of Death", is amazing to watch, though some of its power may be lost on DVD. There was a 2-year gap between seasons 1 and 2, and season 1 ended with the deaths of Hank and Dean Venture, the title characters. In the hiatus period, there was a lot of speculation of how the show would go on (Dr. Thaddeus Venture and his brother Jonas Venture, Jr. would be the new Venture Bros., Dr. Orpheus would ressurect them, Dr. Venture would clone them, Dr. Venture...

The smartest and most well-planned cartoon out there, hands down.
First of all, let me correct Fernando Gonzales by saying that this show IS still hand-drawn ... only the coloring and inking are digitally done. That's one of the reasons it's a favorite of mine, really.

Now, on to the review. It's not that I didn't think Jackson and Doc would be able to top Season One. It's that I knew they could ... and they STILL blew me away. If you've seen Season One of The Venture Brothers, you -need- to see this one. It's got everything the first had, and more ... the character development, in particular, is absolutely stupendous. The boys at Astrobase Go really know their characters, and they've started to show us just how much.

If you like your cartoons smart, funny, strange, and full of more clever pop culture references than you can shake a shrink ray at, check this one out. I did, at the urging of a friend, while the first season was still out, and I was hardly disappointed. VB is one of the few shows on television I actually...

Go Team Venture!
One of the funniest shows on Adult Swim is the "Venture Brothers," a deeply warped look at boys' adventure characters like Jonny Quest and the Hardy Brothers.

The second season is basically much the same as the first, building on previous storylines (example: Jonas Jr.) and having various kooky violent adventures for our friends, and hilarious dialogue ("You've come to steal our great ideas. You've been foiled--we have none!"). That is, after they deal with the shocking cliffhanger that the first season ended with-- the death of Hank and Dean, the title characters.

The second season opens with Dr. Venture escaping to various exotic locales, before being dragged home by Brock. A devastated Dr. Orpheus decides to use necromancy to bring the boys back to life, but can't find their souls -- and a zombielike Hank and Dean appear in the doorway.

Oops, it turns out that the boys have a penchant for getting killed, and so Dr. Venture always keeps handy clones...

IT'S NOT RISKY...
Sam (James D'Arcy) returns from Iraq and wonders about his future. He turns down an easy drug dealing job from his mates to go work as a prison guard. As a prison guard he gets caught in the middle of the politics of crooked guards, drug dealing prisoners, and an unscrupulous wing governor. His life spirals out of control, the thing he was trying to prevent, and he doesn't realize it.

The film starts out interesting and draws you in. However, after about 90 minutes or so, you can't wait for it to be over. James D'Arcy plays Sam in a rather bland almost characterless fashion. His character was hard to get into, and as the centerpiece of the film, he was a hard guy to root for as he becomes his own enemy.

Not the best British crime drama out there, but it does seem like the longest.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity.

Screwed is a serious take on the life of an ex-squaddie and what life is like in one of the tougher British Prisons as an active prison guard. The story is based on the experiences of Ronnie Thompson, who wrote a book about it and also penned the screenplay to this film. Thompson spent seven years working in various prisons and the screenplay is based on the book and the experiences he went through in the job.

James D'Arcy plays the lead role of Sam Norwood and plays it really well. It is quite a versatile role in that he had to play an ex-squaddie, just back from Iraq and portray all that goes with that. He suffers from nightmares and flashbacks and the death of his friend dying in his arms haunts him. The Rise of the Goblin [HD]

Disappointing considering the quality of 'Spectacualr' and 'Avengers: EMH'
If you're a fan of the Spectacular Spider-man series, approach with caution. I never read the "ultimate" comic books, so my expectations may be misplaced to begin with, but this series seems to be aimed exclusively at the 7-11 year-old segment, whereas SSM was more like 7-50.

Ultimate Spiderman is loaded with trying-too-hard-to-be-funny wisecracks and random cut scenes (ala Family Guy) featuring cutesy caricature skits of Lil' Spidey which come off like a bad Teen Titans rip-off. Despite canceling what I felt was the best adaptation of Peter Parker/Spider-man in the Greg Weisman/Victor Cook series, I thought Marvel would produce something similar to the excellent Avengers EMH series. To my disappointment, it's not a show I'll continue to watch. It has the look of a teen-adult targeted series (e.g. the re-imagining of Doc Ock, etc), but the dialogue is painfully immature. I didn't like the supporting superhero cast (shovelware anyone?), the fact the heroes attend Peter's...

Great potential let down by a lack of subtlety
Let me start by saying that this is not a BAD show. Unfortunately, a comparison between it and its immediate predecessor, the excellent and unfairly curtailed "Spectacular Spider-Man", makes it painfully clear that we've taken a step down in terms of quality.

"Ultimate"'s biggest failing is its lack of subtlety. With Spectacular, the interior monologue of Peter Parker - which I'll admit is a hallmark of the comics - was only heard and never seen. In Ultimate, we're repeatedly asked to suspend watching the story in order to watch Peter's often downright silly thought processes. The result is a surreal and frequently frenetic atmosphere which makes it difficult to take the show seriously. Another problem is the show's humor, which misses the mark far too often. Once again, Spectacular was subtle enough to be truly funny. The jokes in Ultimate are, for the most part, clumsily obvious and wind up detracting from the plot.

That being said, there are some good points...

Ultimate Spider-man in title only
This series biggest sin is not following the framework of the amazing comic book series. There isn't a hint of Brian Michael Bendis in this. That is the worst decision. USM is Bendis. The second worst thing is that there is not enough Peter Parker. The third and final thing is why would you put Spiderman on a team of characters that aren't interesting in the least. I have loved USM from the beginning and this is a bastardization of that great idea. So much potential...waisted.

Saved from being erased, this 2nd set of Kovacs material will show you where Letterman Stewart, SNL and even Johnny Carson learn
In 2011 there was great joy among fans of the late comedian/actor/writer Ernie Kovacs when the first volume of ultra rare Kovacs material was released by Shout Factory. The volume garnered many five-star reviews (including mine here on Amazon) and introduced a whole new generation (actually TWO generations, since Kovacs died in 1962 and his name had all but been forgotten - except by those of us who grew up watching him on TV.)

We were told that there was more material "in the vaults" - meaning that it was held by Kovacs widow - Edie Adams - who bought all the original video tapes and kinescopes from the networks when they were ready to erase the tapes and re-use them. The time has come and we now have Volume Two, a somewhat smaller set (just three DVDs this time) but there is still a lot of VERY funny material.

But for those new to Kovacs, let me provide some background:

Long before Monty Python, Saturday Night Live, and David Letterman's late night...

This is the 3rd Ernie Kovacs release from Shout Factory the others being the first lengthy set and a single dvd containing 5 of his ABC specials. This set is less enjoyable than the first because the scope of Kovacs' work is limited. That set offers a little of everything that led to where Ernie was going within the TV medium.

I first became aware of these half hour morning shows via Comdey Central reruns back when the channel didn't have the budget to run their own programs. I became an immediate fan of his offbeat humor and even the liberal amount of interaction he has with his studio...

MORE COMEDY CLASSICS!!
Once again, an excellent package, though containing less material than the 1st collection. Helping immensely is the fact that it was obviously a labor of love (literally, for the late Edie Adams), and the actual content is of course just as zany and brilliant. Planning A Country Get-Away? Probably Best To Avoid Moving In To A Creepy Old Orphanage
In the mood for an old fashioned ghost story? You could certainly do worse than the entertaining mini-series "The Secret of Crickley Hall." Adapting the 2006 novel from the prolific Best Selling author James Herbert, BBC fashioned a handsome supernatural tale that has both heart and horror. Stretched over three hour long episodes, the story has the time to develop at its own pace without rushing. Some of the developments can seem a bit far-fetched, as you might expect. But by focusing on character, the mini-series remains grounded due to it having invested the time to actually make you care about the outcome for the lead family. Even as the main saga gets loopier and less faithful to the source material, I always remained connected. Perhaps "The Secret of Crickley Hall" is not the scariest or most realistic ghost story ever made, but that's a rather lofty expectation to have! A Creepy Ghost Story
On Tuesday, October 8, 2013, BBC Home Entertainment will release last year's creep mini-series The Secret of Crickley Hall on a single-disc DVD, which is based on the novel of the same name by author James Herbert. The ghostly mini-series is coming out just in time for Halloween and stars Maisie Williams from HBO's Game of Thrones and Olivia Cooke from A&E's Bates Motel.

The mini-series aired in three one-hour parts last fall on BBC America and on UK's BBC One. It switches back and forth from the year 2006 and 1943. It begins in London, where Gabe and Eve Caleigh's young son, Cameron (or as they call "Cam"), vanishes without a trace. Eleven months go by and there is still no sign of the boy. Wanting to get away from the one-year anniversary of Cam's disappearance, Gabe, Eve and their two daughters, Loren (played by Maisie Williams)...

Fighter Aces of World War II: Reflections on War

Boys becoming Men
Great stories of Boys becoming Men. Nothing like the horror of being shot at. Nothing like realizing that somebody is trying to kill you. It is a life changer and if you come out alive you realize how precious life really is. War is hell, no doubt about it, but if you want to live "Free" or just "Live" you have to become a man and man up for your country and the future of any children you might had already or coming in the future. These stories of Boys becoming Men will impress you. Enjoy reading a part of what happened to free you from having to learn German or Japanese and being under the influence of Hirohito or Hitler.

Fighter Aces of World War II: Tigers Over China

Real Aces in action
It hard to believe how many "kills" some of the Aces had when the war was over. The Germans had Aces with more kills per Ace than the American, Canadian or the UK, but only because the war for them went on for years with no rotation after 25 missions or return to duty after recovering from wounded. Some really impressive Aces from America.

The Doctor's Wife

Exceptional experience
This documentary was quirky, funny, heart-wrenching and exhilarating. For anyone moving to a small community, watch this movie and take notes. There are few better ways to ingratiate yourself to a new place than to become part of the community, and these guys show you how that's done. Recommended.

Funny, inspirational and moving
This Australian doco will strike a chord with anyone who has had to re-establish themselves in a new town. Vincent and Jonathan relocate from big-city Brisbane to a small (very small!) town in Central Queensland. Jonathan has documented their move in this terrific film. While Vincent slotted quickly into a busy country medical practice, Jonathan was left to find ways to become a part of his new community. As "the doctor's wife" he had a certain role to play. The ways he does this, and the reactions and feelings of the townsfolk, (most of whom had never, to their knowledge, met anyone gay), is a revelation. Anyone contemplating a similar move could do much worse than follow some of Jonathan's advice.
This is a funny, and ultimately very moving, story and well worth the time to check it out

Pleasantly surprised
when I read some of the reviews, I almost skipped watching this little film. But I decided to watch it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. Jonathan is a very talented film maker and artist. I found this film to be interesting and worth the watch. Give it a try.

Supernaturalz: Weird Creepy & Random

Goofy, silly fun
In the same vein as Scary Movie, comes Supernaturalz: Weird, Creepy & Random, a silly romp of a film that never takes itself too seriously, wrapped up in a Bollywood-style wrapper.

Set in the traditional home to witches--Salem, Massachusetts-this obviously low-budget film had its moments. At times I couldn't help laughing out loud. And it was never predictable.

There are two major plotlines (that eventually intersect). The first involves Dawn (newly out of prison) looking to find her adult daughter, Hope, with the help of the Mighty Sardar. The other is the adventures of the Garter Snakes, a girl gang on the run after committing a crime.

The attention given to the props was obvious, from having the Mighty Sardar reading a comic book in bed to various and sundry dildos dressed up as religious artifacts to a particularly interesting window treatment. The stunts were believable for the most part, rather than fantastical.

There was even Game of...

A Fun Ride
I love this movie!
A bunch of hot bad-girls get trapped in a haunted house, including the gorgeous Lucy Spain. The guy who plays the Middle-Eastern magician is absolutely hysterical.
Me and my friends watched this several times and its the kind of movie that gets better and better, even if you know whats going to happen (and which girls take off their clothes). Defintiely a cult classic in the makeing.

Great movie
I loved this movie, at first it was really hard to fallow but once you get into it its a great film. There so many twists and turns in this movie you will be shocked all the way thru. I wish it was offered on dvd i would totally buy it. The star of the Lucy Spain does a great job in this movie. I would reccomend it to anyone

Who Loves Ya Baby?

Great if you like British comedy
If you enjoy British comedy (Allo Allo, Yes Minister, etc.), you will love the Mind Your Language Series. It had great ratings back in the day.

I just wish that all the original episodes were put onto the DVD but some are missing. It isn't just the DVD's on Amazon that are missing them though - no website (that I could find) has all episodes.

Refreshing Comedy
This is one of the best comedy collection on DVD! Story of immigrants trying to learn English in England. Exceptional script and has the typical British comedy touch. I bought all 4 volumes and waiting for the next release!!! Lots of laugh under $10.

Highly recommended!!!

Best Comedy yet
Get ready for some great laughs. I would recommend this series to everyone. You are bound to watch these series over and over again, British comedy at its best!

The Meta Secret

A must see!!! Picks up where The Secret leaves off and is taking it to the next level!
They need to put this on a dvd, since I can only view it from my computer, its not always available to me. Otherwise, it's outstanding! very encouraging and helps me to see and understand how the process works. I can now look back on my past with the perspective that allows me to pervieve the results of my actions in a whole new light. Finally I have the power to set in motion precisely what I want and not what I don"t!

The messages were good - but looks like the out takes from "The Secret"
There is nothing bad or wrong about this film - outside of some production issues with the audio levels making it hard to hear what's being said by the subject matter experts, but I found this film to be pretty much the same messages delivered by The Secret - but with far less clarity. It looked like we were seeing the out takes from the original movie with a few comments from Dr. Mel to bridge the chapters. Again - nothing bad or offensive here, all the speakers are professional, well spoken and know what they are talking about... but I did not find this movie to take it to "The Next Level" as the sub-title suggests. To me it was more like... here's the rest of what you didn't see from the original film.

So if you are really wanting to see more of The Secret - this film might be for you, but if you are in search of something "new" or "next level" - not sure you'll find it here if you saw the original.

I mean to extend no bad thoughts or criticism on Dr. Mel,...

Gunfight at Red Sands

The first spaghetti Western...
This old spaghetti Western may have been the first of its genre, and it is notable for a number of interesting thematic reversals that are carried out in subsequent spaghetti Westerns and even in later American re-assessments of the genre. The most clear-cut of these is the "bad Anglo, good Mexican" perspective that runs through the film, personified in the despicable Wilson brothers (who constantly humilate the decent Mexicans of this Texas town and make radical racial slurs against them). The same motif can be seen in the Charles Bronson-Henry Fonda faceoff in "Once Upon a Time in the West". Another is the "bad sheriff (Corbett)--good gunfighter (Ricardo "Gringo" Martinez") motif" that also comes out much, much later in the (American-made) Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio film, "The quick and the Dead", as well as in Clint Eastwood's dark and powerful "Unforgiven". While some of the acting is stilted in places, the film's departures from the classic...

a review of the movie, not the medium

Aqua Teen is back and better than the previous season
Minor spoiler warning for this review.

Packaging and Menus: This packaging continues with the trend of Williams Street releases in that it's really minimalist. In fact, it might be their most minimalist release. The entire artwork on the DVD cover, the menus, and even the stickers it comes with consist of simple shapes. The DVDs are themselves just solid color. Although simple, it's attractive and very bright. It's simple done right, just like the show itself with it's limited animation.

Video and Audio Quality : Maintains the broadcast quality pretty perfectly. There's only one case of audio inconsistency and that's in a webisode extra. Everything else is fine.

Disc 1 : Houses the 9 episodes that Adult Swim has aired already with commentary for 3 of them.

Episodes : This season opened with a different formula towards the beginning. The Aqua Teens are gone and the spotlight is cast on Carl and the new vampire/landlord Markula. Carl...

Rims!
Vol. 6 of Aqua Teen Hunger Force contains some of the shows best episodes, ever! I liked seven out of the thirteen episodes, and out of those seven, two of them must be considered for any conversation involving "best Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes ever". These classic episodes, in my opinion, are "Laser Lenses" and the never before aired "Shake Like Me", an episode that will create some controversy for sure.

"Laser Lenses" is similar in some respects to a past episode called "Unremarkable Voyage", but it's funnier, and pushes the shows patented surrealistic humor to the limit. Basically, it's an episode where Master Shake is being crueler than usual to his roommates and neighbor, which has been the basis for some of the series best episodes. The origin of Frylock's ability to shoot electricity from his eyes is explained.
"Shake Like Me" was never aired, and once you see it, you'll understand why the network didn't touch it. It's an episode about race. Master Shake is...

Something Borrowed, Something New

Cool mini-series
This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD edition of the series.

Tanner 88 is a TV miniseries which aired on HBO during the 1988 election year. It portrays the campaign a fictional presidential candidate by the name of Jack Tanner.

He is ultra liberal and nominates Ralph Nader for Commerce secratary, Gloria Steinem for Health secratary and other actvists for cabinet positions.

The film has a cast of many famous people playing themselves, including the late country singer, Waylon Jennings, Bob Dole, Pat Robertson, Gary Hart, and many others.

The show ran for 11 episodes starting with the beginning of his campaign to his loss of the nomination to Michael Dukakis.

I found it to be interesting and had some interesting humor in it also. Also since the show aired on HBO it contains language and scenes not shown on regular television. It would get a TV MA for language and sensuality if aired today.

The Criterion DVD...

Tanner is for real
Tanner is an odd bird, it hasn't aged quite as well as i thought it would...yet it remains interesting and sometimes fascinating. The performances are all over the place, sometimes great (Micheal Murphy especially) and sometimes alomst cartoonish...this could be a result of the writing...Trudeau is a cartoonist after all. Being taped on video gives it an odd look as well. Still i watched the whole thing in one sitting and wanted more...so it gets 4 stars. (the interview with Altman and Trudeau is a nice plus)

Robert Altman's Mockumentary MASTERPIECE
This is one of the most important things Alman's done. Which is probably why it's one of his favorites along with MASH and NASHVILLE and SHORT CUTS. It is a political satire set in the '88 presidential election. It has everything and more, even a sequal, Tanner On Tanner. Very smart and sophisticated. CHECH IT OUT NOW!!!!!!

Addicted to Intervention
I teach addiction treatment classes at a university and Intervention is my go to show for in-class exercises. I use these episodes as case studies and to show how NOT to do interventions. These interventions are typically brutal ambushes and though they mostly do the trick by getting the individual into treatment, they generally traumatize the family and are unnecessarily attacking and harmful. Candy may be the most inept interventionist I've ever seen. No wonder a lot of her interventions wind up with the addict running away. I suspect it's great drama for the show, not so great for the addicts or families. Candy is so inappropriate with her self disclosures, her ignorant generalizations and her false pretenses (she pretends to be some all knowing family therapist but she is NOT a therapist and she isn't even a certified addiction counselor--no, her certificate from UCLA's Extension program does not qualify her as "certified" in our state or in any other so the claims on her...

Some people have extreme highs and lows. Dennis was a drug dealer, did prison time, etc. However, he had a loving family and once had a lucrative housing business. I do wonder if those ups & downs may have led to the drug abuse.

Here's what really ate at me. Dennis' wife waited for him for seven years to leave the pokey. She was almost sexually attacked by her father-in-law. In his addiction, Dennis has meth sex with other women, but then punishes his wife for having sex with another man when he was locked up. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! She was nice enough to stand by you and yet you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater!? Another thing that irked me was Dennis' daugther drived him around where he scored drugs. Yucatan Travel: Cancun to Chichen Itza: : Experience Cancun, Tulum, Izamal, Chichen Itza, Coba, Ek Balam, Valladolid, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Mayan Ruins, Mexican Pyramids, and the Riviera Maya

Yucatan Travel is one of my favorites !
This well done travelogue has tons of interesting information for armchair travelers and also for tourists who might wish to step away from the commercial blitz to gain some insight into Pre-Columbian Yucatan life as known to the Maya culture. The Maya ancients enjoyed a rich spiritual life. I really got into the story, the videography is so well done that by watching this it makes me feel like I was along for the trip !

Highly recommended for prospective Yucatan travelers who want to get insight and also understand what is behind the ancient Maya culture and their descendants in today's Yucatan.

Interesting content, quality poor...
The content was very interesting for anyone who has or wants to visit the Yucatan. We travel to this area twice a year and have discovered some hidden gems while watching this DVD. The drawback to this DVD is the quality. It is very poorly done with poor camera work and audio. An amateur video at best. Still interesting if you can get past the quality.

Cheaper By The Dozen (2003)

A Dozen Points
This is a family movie, so you can buy (or rent it) without really flinching about dirty words or inappropriate behavior. Here are a dozen reasons why it's OK and not so OK.

1) (Good) Steve Martin is perfect for these kind of roles. He remains the personification of the unflappable leading man that he's portrayed in films like "Parenthood" and "Father Of The Bride."

2) (Bad) Bonnie Hunt is wasted. She comes off well, but ultimately the kids and Martin have to carry the film.

3) (Good) The kids are likable, and, at times, very touching (Especially Mark/Fed Ex). None of them utter curse words or make smutty jokes.

4) (Bad) That the kids frequently flagrantly disobey house rules without any kind of discipline. (Although the pants and meat gag is the film's best joke.) They plot and scheme sadistic traps ala "Home Alone" lite, and spend a fair amount of time saying how badly the parents' work is interfering with their lives, never minding the fact that Dad's new job is putting...

A Very Funny Movie!
Steve Martin movies are usually very good. "Bringing Down the House," was great, as was "Novocaine," but now he is starting to go to family movies in "Cheaper by the Dozen." "Cheaper by the Dozen," is a remake of a much older movie that was based on a book. The reason I liked this movie was that it was funny, smart, and it was not just an hour and a half of children screaming. Steve Martin was funny in it, very much like he usually is, and I could see them making a sequal out of it, especially since it's already made over a hundred million dollars since Christmas Day.

The movie is about Tom and Kate Baker who live in the small town of Midland with their kids. They have twelve of them. Tom is a collage football couch, and his wife is writing a book on her family which is actually called Cheaper by the Dozen. Their oldest daughter Nora has moved out of the house and is living with her model/actor boyfriend Hank. When Tom gets a job offer to couch another football team they move to a...

The original version was a true story....this is cheap humor
The original 1950's version was based on a true story, written by two of the actual children portrayed in the movie. The remake (if you can even call it that), follows it's own plot, complete with distracted parents and out of control children. Watch the original, which in my opinion is a class act.

Deep in the Heart of Texas

Great value for this little seen show........
The opening credits are on the set, but they play just once when you load the disc before the episode menu comes up. A bad idea, I agree, and something which should be fixed on any feature releases, but the credits aren't really completely missing.

The series was filmed in B/W for the first season, switched to color film for seasons two and three, and then went back to B/W for the final year when it moved to CBS. I guess they weren't as interested in promoting early color TV as NBC was at the time. The color is a bit faded, but not that bad, and I would bet the color schemes were chosen for how they would appear on B/W sets because very few people had color TVs in 1962!

For 39 shows, I'm happy. This show isn't great but I've enjoyed the first few shows so far. It is all new to me since I wasn't born at the time....

I can't stop watching!
To me, Joey Bishop is a true sitcom pioneer. This show reveals how a great troupe of actors can create the foundation of what comedy is today and in many ways how it should be today. Joey and his fellow cast members have the comedic timing and camaraderie that really delivers the laughs. This DVD set not only brings back fond memories but also a youthful perspective I have missed for so many years. This is television without the political correctness that distroys the shows of today. It's even fun watching the cigarette smoking. Bravo Joey and thanks.

Questar gets an "F"
How disappointing to find that, like Questar's release of "Make Room For Daddy", this set truncates the opening credits from each episode. Sorry, Questar....the shows should be in their entirety.

It's rather obvious that, contrary to another reviewer's claim, the deletions of the credits was not due to damaged source material, or both this and the "Make Room For Daddy" wouldn't have the same problem.

Fortunately, I read of this atrocity before purchasing this set. Until I find out that Questar has changed its ways, they will be added to my list of companies from which to NEVER buy.

Warner Bros Insult to Classic dvd Fans
This is undoubtedly Clint Walker's best film with a host of impressive supporting actors, breathtaking wide screen Technicolor cinematography and a powerful score, but all of that is lost in the seedy letterbox reproduction of this movie. Visual composition of this "remastered" classic is so poor that it looks like a VHS tape captured from a TV set with aluminum foil flapping from the antenna. I've purchased other films from the Warner Bros Archives Collection which were also poorly reproduced, but this one is by far the worst. I'd classify it as unwatchable. My advice to interested buyers is to wait until a quality, wide screen dvd version of this outstanding motion picture is available.

"Yellowstone Kelly (1959) ... Clint Walker At His Best ... Gordon Douglas (Director) (2011)"
Warner Bros. Pictures present "YELLOWSTONE KELLY" (1959) ~ (91 min/Color) -- Starring: Clint Walker, Edd Byrnes, John Russell, Ray Danton & Claude Akins

Directed by Gordon Douglas

Clint Walker has the opportunity to shine and convey significant "screen presence" under the tight direction of Gordon Douglas and wonderful script by Burt Kennedy, who penned so many of those wonderful Randolph Scott / Budd Boetticher westerns --- this is Clint Walker at his best.

Our plot and story line, during the late 1870s, fur-trapper Luther `Yellowstone' Kelly (Clint Walker), who once saved the life of a Sioux chief, is allowed to set his traps in Sioux territory. Reluctantly he takes on a tenderfoot assistant Anse Harper (Edd Byrnes) and together they give shelter to runaway Arapaho woman, Wahleeah (Andra Martin). Tensions develop when Anse falls in love with the woman and when Sioux chief Gall (John Russell) arrives with his warriors to re-claim her - drama and...

Snake Hill

you never know what lies beneath!
Saw this a few years ago with friends and was simply overwhelmed that this site in NJ that I had drove past so many times, as a child with my parents and as an adult, had this amazing history! How they were able to uncover and literally unearth this information without authorities and public officials aware that they were making this documentary is anyone's guess. This is a definite "Must Watch"!

Snake Hill
Fast Delivery, reasonable price. Something I have wanted to see since the article posted online years ago. I would always drive past what is left of the Hill driving on the highway and never quite new what it was until now. Thank you for having this dvd available,

Very interesting piece of NJ history
I was both fascinated and appalled by this documentary. It seems impossible that an entire village such as this could simply disappear and be "buried" by the Turnpike. I have given it to both my children (adults now) to view. Highly recommend.

The Campaign [Blu-ray]

A spot-on parody of the absurdity in U.S. politics
Although this movie is far from the apex of Will Ferrell's funniest films, it's still quite enjoyable, and it made me laugh out loud on several occasions. But be warned- this movie is extremely over the top when it comes to lewd humor. Do NOT let your young children watch this movie, or you WILL be embarrassed! For those adults who can handle such humor, strap yourselves in for a foul-mouthed ride that will take you through the very slummiest aspects of the campaigning process.

Although the story is, of course, done in parody, and everything (including the raucous dialogue) is embellished and exaggerated upon, what remains true is that the CORE of the election process remains unchanged. The mud slinging, the character assassination, and the win-at-any cost attitude are all put to examination, exposing the absurdities of each of these time honored American "traditions". In the spirit of "The Daily Show", this movie brings very important issues to light by putting them under...

AMERICA, JESUS, FREEDOM
Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) is a congressman who runs unopposed. After he leaves a graphic obscene phone call at a wrong number, he becomes vulnerable. The rich Motch brothers (Koch brothers) decide they can buy this election and own a congressman in the effeminate Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis). The story centers around their over the top, no holds bar campaign against each other.

The film news extras include mostly the MSNBC crowd. The humor is crude and sexual such as when Marty's wife (Sarah Baker) admits "I touch myself to Drew Carey on "The Price is Right." Okay so who doesn't.

It is a satire of the American electorate who relish slogans and sound bites over substance. It makes a statement on how our nation can be bought, but not as good as Steven Colbert. At times the film becomes too over the top and loses sight of the satire.

Parental Guide: F-bombs, sex, brief nudity (Amelia Jackson-Gray)

Disappointly Not Funny
Since seeing the commercial clips of this movie I've wanted to see it and I finally got a chance. I had such high hopes for this movie because I love comedies. Maybe my expectations were too high, but whatever, this movie was not funny. I chuckled maybe once through the entire thing. I also don't know why I assumed from the commercial ads that this was a family-like comedy. It was extremely vulgar and explicit, but I wouldn't have minded that if it had been funny! The funniest part was when the baby was punched and that was one of the things from the commercial they used to hook people into watching this.

It's sad that with Will Ferrell's comedic genius, and the chance to make fun of the political system, that the filmmakers couldn't do better than this. What a huge waste. This movie is not humorous, just based on lame silliness and a bunch of dumb characterization. Even Saturday Night Life is funnier than this and it hasn't been funny since 1993.

I don't blame...

Point of No Return [HD]

Entertaining but less realistic than season 2
I admit I love this show even though it isn't real. I watched season 2 live on TDC then bought season 1 here, and they clearly thought out how to make season 2 seem more real. In season 1 they make a huge deal how bootleggers aren't allowed out of the car etc ... But they pull right up even though there's a camera crew filming them at 4:00am? With no previous communication with the moonshiners? And some of the dialogue in season 1 just seems more rehearsed and amateurish. Still happy I bought it though, it's a great balance of live action, history, and how-to technical details.

Best Show Ever!!!
This show is amazing. Tim and Tickle are the best they work together to make moonshine to save up money to go legal. Tim is the serious one and Tickle is so funny and just a pure redneck genius, and he can do everything with out putting down his beer.

Fun AND Educational.
I like watching this one, because A) I have never experienced moonshine, though I suspect my great-grandpa ran some.
B) watching people talk about a subject they are so expect on, that is super illegal, is fascinating to me.

The history of it is so cool.
